Bruised-Basil Bourbon Blackberry Lemonade
- 1 cup Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1/2 cup Raw Sugar
- 1/3 cup Honey (or substitute additional 1/2 cup raw sugar)
- Carton of blackberries
- Handful of fresh basil leaves
- Bourbon (optional)
Dissolve sugar and honey in 2 cups of hot water, add to pitcher.
Purée Blackberries and strain through fine strainer, add to pitcher.
Fill pitcher with cold water, adjust sweet and tart ratio to taste.
Muddle a few basil leaves and a few blackberries in a pint glass.
Loosely fill glass with ice, add a shot of bourbon, fill with lemonade.
Tastes great virgin too.
Garnish with basil flower and have a great day.
Silly-Good, Sea-Salty Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 1 1/3 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup cane sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375º F
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
Dissolve baking soda and salt in hot water then add to mix.
Mix in flour then add chocolate chips.
Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for about 8-10 minutes in the preheated oven until edges are nicely browned with a soft center, you're shooting for crispy + chewy. Cool on rack.
Extra credit—Sprinkle each cookie with a pinch of coarse sea salt.
Bonus points—Use only super-snooty, expensive ingredients for ultimate cookie joyride. Surprisingly perhaps, the quality of the flour really comes through, combined with ingredient upgrades, vanilla, butter, sugar, and chocolate, it does make a big difference.
